Airborn is the new project led by flutist, multi-instrumentalist and composer Eddie Parker. A founder member of the acclaimed British jazz orchestra Loose Tubes, Parker’s early career led him to collaborate with many future musical luminaries including Django Bates, John Parricelli, Iain Ballamy and many more. Many will know Eddie’s work in the 1990s with South African piano genius Bheki Mseleku. Eddie is also a regular member of the Will Gregory Moog Ensemble. More recently, his Debussy Mirrored Ensemble have gained much positive attention for their unique compostitons and performances.
Joining Eddie in Airborn is guitarist Rob Luft, a master of his craft that needs no introduction in jazz and guitar circles, who greatly enhances the project with his deeply intricate musical explorations. When a 21-year-old Rob Luft sat in for John Parricelli for a few nights during Loose Tubes’ reunion set at Ronnie Scotts’s in 2014, the spark of an idea kindled. A few years later that inner mounting flame took the form of playing modern classics by John McLaughlin, Keith Jarrett, Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor. Now with a brand new, original set of songs composed by Eddie and featuring Eddie on keyboards as well as flute, Airborn was born. Completing the line up are Dave Manington on double bass and Jay Davis on drums, who provide their own excellent contributions.
